Cook County News-Herald - Grand Marais, Minnesota
From: NewsTrove.com
"Mitch Dorr/Sports writer
The winter blahs hit the Cook County boy's basketball team this past week as they dropped three straight games. The Vikings record is now 4-19 with two regular season games remaining.
What has been very unique about this team is that everyone is continuing to play hard and learn the game a day at a time. The attitude has been great, we just need to get better everyday.
On Tuesday, Feb. 8, the Vikings played host to the Hilltoppers from Duluth Marshall. Marshall was without star guard Adam Machones who had a severely sprained ankle at the time. Machones averages 20."

How to Travel and Exercise at High Altitude

"Not only trekkers, skiers, and mountain climbers, but even ordinary sightseers are at risk for high altitude (or mountain) sickness. Today's travelers can arrive at high altitudes without having adequate time for their bodies to acclimate. Many ski resorts and mountain cities, for example, can be reached directly by jet planes which abruptly deposit travelers a mile or more above sea level. The result can be mountain sickness, which is caused by a reduction in the amount of oxygen reaching the brain and muscles because of the lower atmospheric pressure at high elevations."
Hormonal therapy for postmenopausal women: Time to reconsider and initiate treatment based on the individual requirements
From: NewsTrove.com
"The crisis of hormone replacement therapy during the menopausal years is
truly dramatic, distressing and strange. It reached a climax in July 2002 when
the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) stunned the medical profession by
prematurely halting a section of its randomized, controlled trial using a
combination of estrogen and progesterone in a continuous combined manner, while
continuing another section of the trial using estrogen alone. This became an
important medical, social and philosophical issue.
In the short history of hormonal treatment, it has been necessary for women
and their treating physicians to cope with four crises."
Cardiac Imaging Underutilized in Women
From: NewsTrove.com
"Life-saving diagnostic tests are often overlooked in women suffering from heart
disease. These tests can predict future heart attacks and provide early warning
signs of heart disease in at risk patients.
Advancements in medical imaging have given physicians powerful new tools in the
fight against heart disease. However, a recent statement by the American Heart
Association (AHA), published in the Feb. 1 issue of the journal Circulation,
warns that tests are underutilized in female patients."
