Integrating Psychological and Medical Care
From: NewsTrove.com
"Though he's still primarily a traditional practitioner, Robert Buri, PhD, has begun to diversify by providing services at the Innovative Pain Center in Watertown, S.D. He'd been in practice at a medical clinic for 10 years when anesthesiologist Pat Retterath, MD, asked him to join him at the center, where patients are treated for pain associated with such conditions as degenerative disk disease, chronic lower back pain or fibromyalgia.
Providing services in such areas as pain management, weight loss or smoking cessation has become a thriving arena for psychologists seeking to break out of the therapist's office."
Revitalizing hands
From: NewsTrove.com
"Jayne Turconi, a Minot massage therapist, specializes in helping people relax, but she also is certified in Lypossage, a body contouring treatment used to eliminate lumps, bumps and cellulite.
Lypossage cleanses the body of retained fluid and toxins and breaks up adhesions under the skin that can contribute to a dimpled, uneven appearance. It lifts and firms sagging tissue and tones muscles.
The treatment is a blend of massage techniques and derives additional elements from physical therapy, including lymphatic drainage and deep tissue release.
"There are some deep, rigorous massages, and it's all done by hand," Turconi said."
Understanding Reggie White's Disease
From: NewsTrove.com
""Patients are allowed to deteriorate without any treatment until they have enough major organ damage to warrant the use of high-dose, long-term, toxic and ineffective prednisone" (www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a601102.html), Mangin said. "Because the symptoms of systemic sarcoidosis are so poorly recognized, patients suffer from debilitating pain, muscle weakness, fatigue and many other symptoms that have a huge negative impact on the quality of their lives. Death usually occurs in 10-20 years with or without treatment."

Fibromyalgia Blogs from LiveJournal

"So I went to the rheumatoligist again today, and my RhF is actually 450 (so forget 5x more than normal, but its actually almost 9x normal), but I don;t have the markers for rheumatoid arthritis, but there is no indication (as I am sexually active and such, and get tested periodically) of Hep B or C, which can cause that type of raised RhF, he doesn;t think it has anything to do with my symptoms, ANA negative (no its not lupus), I've been tested for Lyme Disease over and over, and nothing... so the last thing is, he's going to test for some antimitochondrial and anti-smooth-muscle antibodies to test for liver disease or autoimmune hepatitis, but my liver enzymes have always been in the "normal range" for someone taking estrogen for a gender change, and therefore, he thinks its probably not that either...
With the psoriasis, rheumatoid factor is not usually raised.
He said the RhF can just be raised, and some people never know why and are perfectly healthy....obviously not me, but he doesn;t think that the symptoms are related to the raised RhF
Which leaves... yes, you guessed it, what I've had prelim diagnoses of for 3 years now... and have been treating "as if"...Fibromyalgia.... except with all the stress of a divorce, child custody battle, cellulitis (methicillin resistant staph) that I was hospitalized for, the loss in money that went with being out of work for a month, the stress of being a single parent and trying to work and have a chronic pain disorder.. and the spiralling sequence of all these feeding into each other... I'm not able to deal with the pain and the fatigue like I used to. I've come close to losing my job, except that I asked for ADA accomodation, and they haven't bothered me since about taking a day off to rest here or there, or go to the doctor..... (wow talk about run-on paragraphs)
Gee, all that to find out what we already knew. *sigh* at least I have insurance.
Next step: my Primary Doctor's FMS/CFS specialist... I need some relief, I can't hurt and be exhausted all the time and keep up all my duties to my son and my job."
I appologize
From: www.livejournal.com
"Alright well, I didn’t realize my post was deleted since I haven’t been online because I’ve been sick. I certainly didn’t post because it was selling a product. I did not realize this until after I posted. I just thought it was interesting and some helpful information. I’m sorry if it caused such a huge problem. I was just trying to be helpful, not a hindrance."
Topamax
From: www.livejournal.com
"Has anyone else been on this? My drs have been thinking that perhaps I had MS given the new aphasias, right arm and leg spasms and general increase in spasticity all over (ouch to say the least): while I was waiting to get into a neurologist, I was given Zanaflex (4 mg/3X daily) which has been helping the twitchy nonsense and some of the spasms. Neuro double checked MRI and decided do NOT have MS ! yahoo!! but she also decided that there was little she could do as has no clue what is causing all of this. Drats. as neurontin, flexeril and zanaflex merely make the pain more manageable, she wants me to try Topamax and if that does not work, then Keppra (which sounds nasty for side effects given what I've seen posted here!!!). So while I wait to see a pain specialist (months nad months from now - like why did I not get a referral to one, hmmm, YEARS ago?), it's Topamax. That in itself will take a few months to get up to therapeutic dosage the neuro told me - so I thought perhaps a little feedback from any of you who have encountered this wee beastie would be nice, before I spend months working up the dosage to see if it will help. Lol - I was just remembering the neuro telling me that prior to MRIs my symptomology would have had a MS diagnosis; now I don't quite fit the criteria. "
