"Hey, I was surprised when I did a search to actually find a community for fibromyalgia. I have been suffering with the symptoms for 5 years now, but it was only a few months ago that I was diagnosed with it. I had been tested for everything, sent to a bunch of different doctors and no one seemed to be able to give me an answer. I finally have a name for what I have, but it still seems like they aren't doing a whole lot for me. The doctor gave me a prescription for Flexeral 10mg. I guess it's supposed to help me fall into the right sleep stage, I'm not totally understanding what he was talking about when he gave it to me. He also told me to exercise more. I have a hard time doing that because I get so tired and in pain by doing it, but he said it will help, but it hasn't really so far. I'm glad that I found this community because none of my friends understand why I can't make it to school a lot. I usually miss 1-2 days a week, and they think I'm just faking. They have no idea what it's like to not be able to move to get up in the morning.

It's nice to finally have people to talk to who understand. :-)"

"Ok, so it's doc-confirmed. I have Hypermobility Syndrome.

What is the Hypermobility Syndrome?
Connective tissue proteins such as collagen give the body its intrinsic toughness. When they are differently formed, the results are mainly felt in the "moving parts" - the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments - which are laxer and more fragile than is the case for most people. The result is joint laxity with hypermobility and with it comes vulnerability to the effects of injury.

The main thing this changes for me (besides a serious validation for all my joints have gone thru!) is an understanding and awareness of how my body works. Now that the chiroprator is helping me get thru some of the immediate pain, I want to start strengthing my muscles and get more in shape.

I'm not sure though, what exercises to try. In the past, gyms and even physical therapists that I've done exercising with, concentrate so heavily on flexibility. I *cannot* do that. I need to focus on being *less* flexible than I am now. Someone suggested Tai Chi, and I'm looking into that, but I'd like other suggestions too, so I have more options based on how I'm feeling.

I know there's at least a few of you here that have this and I'm hoping you can let me know what you do.

seattle
From: www.livejournal.com

"anyone here live in seattle? does the cold + the rain aggravate your aches / pains? i'm thinking about moving there for college but i'm scared it will really hurt me.

thoughts?

also, my mom gave me some medicine for a tension headache that basically had me screaming on the kitchen floor. my neck amd head hurt so bad, i was just flailing and screaming and crying. funny how the frustration was intense enough i was willing to suffer more pain to get it out. anyway, it was a fairly large circular green pill. what was that? my mother is out of town because she's crazy and sometimes likes to quit being a mother so i can't call and ask her. what was it though so i can ask my doctor? worked like a charm.

also, you know what is the funniest thing ever? sex on ambien, and you can't remember it the next day. my poor boyfriend: "that was really good last night!" me: "what, the movie?""
