Chronic Pain News from NewsTrove
Sargis Serges 1924-2005
From: NewsTrove.com
"Sarg Serges, a fixture of Chicagoland backgammon for nearly 35 years, died 16 January 2005 at the age of 80. Since his minor stroke on Memorial Day 2004, Sarg appeared to be getting better every day. He was thrilled when his son Tim staged an 80th birthday party tournament in his honor at the Bar Point Club in October.
Unfortunately, his remarkable recovery was undermined by the rapid progression of cancer diagnosed just one week prior to his passing. There was diffuse metastasis to his liver which was already damaged when he contracted dengue fever during his term of service in World War 2."
Another Turkey Escapes the Pot
From: NewsTrove.com
"In a speech delivered at the World Social Forum on Mumbai in January 16, 2004, Arundhati Roy, the great Indian activist and author of The God of Small Things, asked the assembled delegates to ponder the question: "Do Turkeys Enjoy Thanksgiving?" She recalled for them the great American tradition of issuing a presidential pardon to one lucky turkey on Thanksgiving. She postulated that this tradition was a perfect allegory for what she called the New Racism.
"A few carefully bred turkeys," she said, "the occasional Colin Powell, or Condoleezza Rice . . . are given absolution and a pass to Frying Pan Park."
Horror of Hatfield crash revealed

Mrs Moore said she had also been in coach F but had walked into the buffet car - where the four victims who died were situated - to get a phone card for her mobile.
"The train gave a violent lurch and I fell over. I felt silly because I thought I had slipped," she said. "I must have hit my head. There was a ripping noise above my head."
Exporting America: An Interview With Lou Dobbs
From: NewsTrove.com
"When American manufacturing jobs headed overseas in the 1990s, supporters of tariff-free trade argued that newly unemployed workers could simply find jobs in the growing high-tech sector. Yet multinational corporations soon outsourced white-collar and service-industry jobs as well, with overseas labor fielding support questions from computer users, programming software, and even examining X-rays and MRI scans for American consumers.
Outsourcing has found a fierce opponent in journalist Lou Dobbs."
